Youth Sports

Through Y youth sports programs, millions of children today are cultivating the values, skills, and relationships that lead to positive behaviors, better health, and educational achievement. The YMCA believes that its youth sports programs can help children to grow personally, clarify values, improve relationships, appreciate diversity, develop leadership skills and have fun.  There's so many ways to make new friends and stay safe in a supportive environment. 

GYMNASTICS—JUST FLOOR!: Stretch Your Limits! Level 1 classes is for beginners to advanced beginners with skills taught to include cartwheels, round-offs, and bridge kick-overs.  Level 2 classes is for intermediate to advanced skills, including back handsprings and back tucks.  Minimum skill requirement for L2 is ability to perform bridge kick-over without assistance. (Attire: sweatpants/shorts and t-shirt that can be tucked in; long hair must be tied back (pony tail, braids); no jewelry.)

Kinder Sports: children are introduced to the basics and skills of a variety of sports while building confidence and learning team play.  Ages 3-6.

Gym & Swim: participants spend time in the gym for games and sports then transition to the pool for water explorations and lesson.  For ages 4-6. (Offered in Summer Session only.)

Basketball: Essential skills of shooting, drilling, passing, rebounding and defense are taught with emphasis on the development of the player.  Ages 4-17.

Youth Travel Basketball League: Tryouts for our 2017-2018 season will be in October 2017. League is for grades 5-8 only. For more information contact Mary Sullivan at msullivan@metroymcas.org

Indoor Soccer: Players focus on fundamental skills with progression available from beginner to advanced.  Teamwork and Sportsmanship is emphasized.  Ages 3-17.

Basketball Conditioning: Speed and agility drills are used to improve strength, quickness, power and agility to make you a better player.  Ages 10-17.

Martial Arts: an introductory program for ages 5-12 teaching basic skills, discipline, and an understanding of martial arts and its movement while building self-esteem and respect for others.

Friday night teen ball:  Open gym for teens to play basketball. Ages 13-17, Fridays 6:00-8:00pm. FM Free; PP $5, Guest $6.

Teen Dodgeball: Grades 6-8; Grab your friends and get moving for this all teen program! Free to members; Registration required. 

Private or Semi-Private Lessons: Our quality instructors have experience coaching young teens through college athletes, so whether you are trying to fine-tune your fundamentals or want to improve the technical aspects of your game, our coaching staff will help you see results.  See current brochure for rates.
