    The South Mountain YMCA is seeking a full time Administrative Assistant to provide high-level administrative support for the day to day operations of the School Age Child Care (SACC) program. Major areas of responsibility and accountability include, but are not limited to:

    • Provide excellent customer service representing the program in all communications with schools, parents and staff.
    • Act as point person for program staff schedules and placement of substitutes for all SACC sites.
    • Coordinate, track and maintain supplies for program; process invoices and bills; address all incoming calls and guests.
    • Assist with and coordinate arrangements for trainings and materials, meetings and SACC activities.
    • Act as liaison with NJ Licensing for SACC program and American Camping Association (ACA) accreditation for camp program; ensure all licensing information is up-to-date including CARI documentation for all program staff across sites.
    • Handle all confidential information in relations to the programs.
    • Assist with opening and closing sites for each school year.

  • Before/After School Age Child Care

Additionally, we have programs at the Civic House at Memorial Field in Maplewood and The South Mountain YMCA Program Center.

    Site Supervisors

    Minimum Requirements: Very organized with experience leading staff and working with children in a group setting in Before/After School programs. High school diploma required, college credits/degree preferred. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate well with parents and school staff is essential.  

    Group Leaders and Group Assistants

    Minimum Requirement: Ability to lead and/or assist children with positive group activities in a nurturing environment. Candidates will be a positive role model ensuring safety of the children at all times.

    Schedule: Monday - Friday

    Before Care: some sites 7:15am - 8:30am; some sites 7:30am – 8:45am

    After Care: some sites 2:15pm - 6:30pm; some sites 2:30pm – 7:00pm.

  • Environmental Education Instructors

    Are you interested in teaching children about themselves and the nature that surrounds them? Fairview Lake YMCA Camps is a year round residential outdoor education program that focuses on hands-on experiential education and outdoor courses for children in grades 2-8. Fairview Lake is located in the Northwest corner of New Jersey surrounded by 660 acres of swamp, forest and fields. We also reside on a mile long lake, our name sake. We are only an hour and a half drive to New York City!

    Fairview Lake Environmental Education and Conference Instructors will teach pre-approved academic curriculum for ecologies, facilitate the teambuilding course, and lead campfires and night hikes. Environmental Education classes are a major portion of lessons led, however, some recreational activities like boating, climbing wall and orienteering occur regularly. Everyone will also lend a hand when it comes to projects; a few examples being: fixing equipment, upkeep of cabins and wood-splitting.

    Preschool Gymnastics Class Instructors

    Under the direction of the Enrichment Director, Preschool Gymnastics Class Instructors will be responsible for teaching basic elements of gymnastics to children from 2-5 years old.  The position is required to follow all policies and procedures set forth by the YMCA.

    Minimum Requirements:  At least one year of experience teaching gymnastics or 3 years or more in participating in a gymnastics program.  Previous experience working with children ages 2 to 5 years old a plus.

    Schedule:  Various Week Days 9:00AM-3:00PM

    Assistant Gymnastics Coach

    Under the direction of the School Age Gymnastics Coordinator, Assistant Gymnastics Coaches will assist in the overall supervision of safety, spotting, and coaching of the Aces Girls Gymnastics team. The position is required to follow all policies and procedures set forth by the YMCA/ USAG Junior Olympic Program.

    Minimum Requirements:  At least two years of experience with competitive gymnastics in a coaching role or a competing role.

    Responsible for teaching Progressive Swim programs. Must ensure the safety of all students enrolled in classes while making learning experience enjoyable and fun for all the participants. Required to maintain the physical demands of the position and possess strong interpersonal skills to maintain a trusting relationship with children, parents, staff, and community and be able to fulfill responsibilities in accordance with YMCA standards.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Certified as a Swim Instructor with the Red Cross or the YMCA.
    • Must have prior experience with children in a similar teaching setting.
    • Must be able to teach classes of up to 8 swimmers.
    • Must be able to teach different swim strokes and water acclimation for ages three through adults.
    • Must learn the curriculum for all swim levels.

    Program Specialist (3 - 6 hours per week) - Do you have a special area of interest that you would love to share with children? Organized person with experience working with children in a group setting/teaching experience required. College degree preferred. Responsibilities include planning and implementing enrichment activities around monthly themes that meet the mission of the Y.

    After School Program Assistants (15 - 20 hours per week) - Experience working with children in a group setting preferred. A minimum of a High School diploma preferred.
