    Minimum Requirement: Ability to lead and/or assist children with positive group activities in a nurturing environment. Candidates will be a positive role model ensuring safety of the children at all times.

    Schedule: Monday - Friday

    Before Care: some sites 7:15am - 8:30am; some sites 7:30am – 8:45am

    Swim Instructors:

    Responsible for teaching Progressive Swim programs. Must ensure the safety of all students enrolled in classes while making learning experience enjoyable and fun for all the participants. Required to maintain the physical demands of the position and possess strong interpersonal skills to maintain a trusting relationship with children, parents, staff, and community and be able to fulfill responsibilities in accordance with YMCA standards.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Certified as a Swim Instructor with the Red Cross or the YMCA.
    • Must have prior experience with children in a similar teaching setting.
    • Must be able to teach classes of up to 8 swimmers.
    • Must be able to teach different swim strokes and water acclimation for ages three through adults.
    • Must learn the curriculum for all swim levels.

  • Senior Program Director, School Age Child Care

    The Metro YMCA of the Oranges has an exciting  opportunity for an experienced Senior Program Director to oversee and provide leadership and direction to our South Mountain and East Orange School Age Child Care Program.  In partnership and under the direction of the Associate Executive Director, the Sr. Program Director of School Aged Child Care will provide strong leadership and direction in the management, development, supervision, evaluation and growth/expansion of the South Mountain and East Orange School Age Child Care Program exercising sound judgment, problem solving and decision making authority including (but not limited to) budget, fundraising, policies, procedures, staff supervision, recruitment and training, and day-to-day operations of program. Direct supervision and/or support of summer day camp/s, including serving as staff liaison to board committee(s) as needed.

    Essential Functions:

    • Develop, implement and manage the operating plan to promote program and grow participation within local school district (s) or at offsite locations ensuring a safe, educational, social and nurturing environment.
    • Work with directors to develop a culture of cause driven work, leadership and programming.
    • Build relationships and increase engagement with school district leadership, relevant community partners, groups and key stakeholders to further the impact and mission of the Ys work and position the Y as a key community partner. Maintains effective working relationships with community partners; i.e. school administrators, CBO’s (community based organizations), town officials and other cultural entities to enhance programming and visibility of the program.
    • Work with Associate Exec and Executive Director to Create a philanthropic culture in which participants are aware of the Y’s non-profit status and design a member phase campaign which focuses on identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
    • Provides oversight and support to staff in Developing and managing department budgets related to the position.
    • Provides leadership to staff in exercising sound judgment in resolving issues with parents, school teachers and administrators. Consults with Associate Executive/Branch Executive/HR when necessary.
    • Provides support to staff in managing the licensing requirements assuring compliance with state and local regulations.
    • Ensures program standards are met and safety procedures are followed.
    • Provides strategic influence in recruiting, hiring, on boarding and training assigned staff and volunteers for School Age Child Care and Summer Day Camp. Reviews and evaluates performance of lead staff and Conducts regular leadership staff meetings and trainings.
    • Conduct regular site observations, assuring program quality and safety standards are met. Provide reports to lead program directors and staff to include current state, identification of issues and trends and work with team to analyze trends based on surveys of parent, student, principal, and staff feedback.
    • Develop improvement plans as needed ensuring high quality member-focused programs through innovative program development and on-going staff development.
    • Oversee the management of program directors ensuring risk management guidelines are continually maintained according to the mission of the programs.
    • Support and ensure implementation of CATCH and STEM programs at both Y’s, in addition to adopting other signature programs or enhancements to programs as assigned.
    • Collaborate with program directors and Associate Executive Director with review of curriculum development and enhancements where necessary.
    • Facilitates communication and provides leadership. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions.
    • Provides leadership and support to the Annual Support Campaign, and other special events as assigned.
    • Supports program directors in Management and maintenance of data and reports as required for assigned programs are delivered in a timely manner.
    • Responsible for administrative duties including but not limited to payroll, HR related documents, accidents reports, budget, etc.
    • Actively leads and participates in summer camp preparation/programs/initiatives and ACA Accreditation and compliance where necessary.

Required to maintain the physical demands of the position and possess strong interpersonal skills to maintain a trusting relationship with children, parents, staff, and community and be able to fulfill responsibilities in accordance with YMCA standards.

  • Welcome Center Associate

    The Sussex County YMCA is seeking a Part Time Welcome Center Associate to serve as the front line person to greet and assist our members and visitors. Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to registering events and programs, handling money transactions, answering phone calls, greeting members and ensuring access, guest verifications, promoting and selling membership, providing administrative support to the Associate Membership Director, filing, and providing accurate information to all inquiries in a friendly and professional manner. Must ensure a high-level of member service and be passionate about working with people and helping the community with their health and well-being. The Welcome Center is the main hub of the branch, therefore, the position will serve as the center of communication and assistance for the overall business operations and member service functions.

  • Year-Round Program Instructors

    Job Type: Part-Time
    Location: Fairview Lake YMCA

    Become an Environmental Education & Program Instructor.
    Job responsibilities include teaching a variety of outdoor classes in the areas of ecology, natural history, team building and outdoor skills, assisting in evening programs like night hikes and camp fires, and developing new curriculum. A BA/BS is preferred but not required, however a love and wonder of the natural world, and an enthusiasm to work with children are requirements of the successful applicants. Being a team player and flexible in your teaching style is also vital.
    Instructors have the opportunity to work with schools, youth & adult groups & families through our Environmental Education & Conference Programs.
