    Minimum Requirement: Ability to lead and/or assist children with positive group activities in a nurturing environment. Candidates will be a positive role model ensuring safety of the children at all times.

    Schedule: Monday - Friday

    Before Care: some sites 7:15am - 8:30am; some sites 7:30am – 8:45am

Required to maintain the physical demands of the position and possess strong interpersonal skills to maintain a trusting relationship with children, parents, staff, and community and be able to fulfill responsibilities in accordance with YMCA standards.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Certified as a Swim Instructor with the Red Cross or the YMCA.
    • Must have prior experience with children in a similar teaching setting.
    • Must be able to teach classes of up to 8 swimmers.
    • Must be able to teach different swim strokes and water acclimation for ages three through adults.
    • Must learn the curriculum for all swim levels.

    The successful candidate must believe in the core values of the organization and be driven by the mission. The candidate should be collaborative, innovative and creative. Greet and direct guests entering office and/or by incoming calls, will positively promote Fairview Lake programs. The registrar will be responsible for providing accurate information in a professional manner to all types of inquiries.

     

    • Responsible for answer incoming calls. Will greet and direct guests entering office.
    • Answers general inquiry calls, and forwards to appropriate director for further assistance if needed. Opens, distributes and processes mail.
    • Collects, sorts, alphabetizes or codes various documents for filing, storage or processing.
    • Retrieves and compiles data and prepares reports for all department heads.
    • Organizes, maintains, and/or purges files, documents, and/or logs. Performs related work as assigned and assists in special projects as the need arises.
    • Conveys accurate and timely information to department heads and Association Services via incoming group reports, program participation reports, conference summaries, deferred income, meal counts and tracking reports.
    • Process, collect and track all hire paperwork with the assistance of the Secretary II.
    • Assumes all responsibilities of the administrative assistant in her absence.
    • Will help in the area for follow through with entering names and addresses in Raptor program. Work with department heads to notify groups that they will need to provide drivers licenses for all adults that enter on camp property.

     

    EE/Conference:

    • Type and mail accurate group reservation contracts, follow tentative reservations to confirm contracts with deposits, ensure insurance certificates and rosters are provided by the group.
    • Responsible for the schedule board in the office.
    • Handles the special event registrations (i.e. un-affiliated groups, individual family events, etc.).
    • Serves as the communication link between constituents and department heads – conveys group needs and/or changes in requirements to various departments on a timely basis.

     

    Summer Camp/Trading Post Administrative Support:

    • Will support in collecting for summer camp health, parent/confidential, trading post and other forms.
    • Assist in aspects of the trading post by receipting, doing reports and helping on check in and/or visiting days.

     

    Marketing:

    • Promote the services offered at Fairview Lake through telephone or written inquiries or pass information on to appropriate department head for follow through.
    • Be an ambassador for the YMCA—always striving to provide excellent customer service to members, staff and visitors.

     

    Accounting/Financial:

    • Receipts monies, prepares bank deposits and posts payments to proper customer accounts accurately.
    • Prepares invoices for environmental education and conference accounts, processes receivables.
    • Track current year EE and Conference deferred income.      
    • Cash responsibilities include overseeing a petty cash fund of $300-500 (ranges depending on time of year) and checking, receipting, and preparing the Trading Post cash fund for use each.      
    • Keep all customer information secure.

     

    Annual Support Campaign:

    • Responsible for the receipting and follow up correspondence of all donations and, in conjunction, works with Executive Director and Association Services to keep information current and accurate. Currently manages 300+ donors, nearing 100K.

    The Y’s camp season runs from June 26 - August 25th. All hired staff will need to attend a minimum of 30 hours of pre-camp trainings on some evenings and most Saturdays in June. Higher level camp positions also require pre-camp planning as part of the position requirements.

    PT/FT Specialist - (18 yrs. and older)

    Camp Specialist are responsible for planning activities around themes for each week of camp already chosen, leading these activities with camper groups, and overseeing other camp staff while in their classes. Applicant must have prior experience in providing excellent customer service for parents, campers and leadership of staff. We are in need of program leaders that have knowledge of and passion to teach:  science, music, art, tennis, sports, world life, cooking, drama, games, or create your own and really impress us!!

     

    FT Senior Counselors (18 yrs. and older)

    Senior Counselors are responsible for supervising Junior Counselors and camper groups, implementing day-to-day activities, assist in the planning of special events and camp activities, leading daily swim lessons, engaging children in activities, and communicating concerns and issues to parents and directors. Applicant must have prior experience in providing excellent customer service for parents, campers, and staff leadership. Must be willing and able to get into the water to assist in swim lessons daily after being trained by YMCA aquatic staff. 

     

    PT/FT Junior Counselors (16-18 yrs. - maybe 15 with CIT experience)

    Junior Counselors are responsible for assisting Senior Counselors and Program Specialists to provide positive leadership for campers. Applicant must have good customer service skills and interested in learning how to provide excellent customer service for parents and campers. Volunteer or work experience with children required. Must be willing and able to get into the water to assist in swim lessons daily, after being trained by YMCA aquatic staff. Starting hourly wage rate is $5.50 for first time hires that are under age 18, per youth minimum wage compliance.

     

    PT Swim Instructors (15-17 yrs.)

    Swim Instructors are responsible for assisting camper groups with swim lessons in the early part of the camp day. Our YMCA Lifeguards train and assist our staff in leading swim lessons. Applicant must have good customer service skills and be interested in learning how to provide excellent customer service for parents and campers. Applicants must be able to encourage campers to be comfortable in the water and learn how to swim. Our campers are swim-tested and placed into appropriate levels to ensure their progression. Starting hourly wage rate is $5.50 for first time hires that are under age 18, per youth minimum wage compliance.

     

    Extended Care Counselor (16 years or older)

    After Camp Counselors are responsible for providing positive leadership for campers and organize activities of campers’ choice in the afternoon hours.  Applicant must have good customer service skills and be interested in learning how to provide excellent customer service for parents and campers. The Welcome Center is the main hub of the organization, therefore, the position will serve as the center of communication and support for the overall operations and member service functions.

  • Year-Round Program Instructors

    Location: Fairview Lake YMCA

    Become an Environmental Education & Program Instructor.
    Job responsibilities include teaching a variety of outdoor classes in the areas of ecology, natural history, team building and outdoor skills, assisting in evening programs like night hikes and camp fires, and developing new curriculum. A BA/BS is preferred but not required, however a love and wonder of the natural world, and an enthusiasm to work with children are requirements of the successful applicants. Being a team player and flexible in your teaching style is also vital.
    Instructors have the opportunity to work with schools, youth & adult groups & families through our Environmental Education & Conference Programs.
