    Group Leaders and Group Assistants

    Minimum Requirement: Ability to lead and/or assist children with positive group activities in a nurturing environment. Candidates will be a positive role model ensuring safety of the children at all times.

    Schedule: Monday - Friday

    Before Care: some sites 7:15am - 8:30am; some sites 7:30am – 8:45am

    Minimum Requirements:  At least one year of experience teaching gymnastics or 3 years or more in participating in a gymnastics program.  Previous experience working with children ages 2 to 5 years old a plus.

    Assistant Gymnastics Coach

    Under the direction of the School Age Gymnastics Coordinator, Assistant Gymnastics Coaches will assist in the overall supervision of safety, spotting, and coaching of the Aces Girls Gymnastics team. The position is required to follow all policies and procedures set forth by the YMCA/ USAG Junior Olympic Program.

    Minimum Requirements:  At least two years of experience with competitive gymnastics in a coaching role or a competing role.

    Responsible for teaching Progressive Swim programs. Must ensure the safety of all students enrolled in classes while making learning experience enjoyable and fun for all the participants. Required to maintain the physical demands of the position and possess strong interpersonal skills to maintain a trusting relationship with children, parents, staff, and community and be able to fulfill responsibilities in accordance with YMCA standards.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Certified as a Swim Instructor with the Red Cross or the YMCA.
    • Must have prior experience with children in a similar teaching setting.
    • Must be able to teach classes of up to 8 swimmers.
    • Must be able to teach different swim strokes and water acclimation for ages three through adults.
    • Must learn the curriculum for all swim levels.

    The Y’s camp season runs from June 27 - August 26th. All hired staff will need to attend a minimum of 30 hours of pre-camp trainings on some evenings and most Saturdays in June. Higher level camp positions also require pre-camp planning as part of the position requirements.

    All open camp positions for the 2016 season are listed below. Many of these positions are available at any of our 16-day camps with daily hours ranging from 7am to 7pm for both full and part time positions.

    FT Tennis Specialist-(18 yrs. and older)

    Camp Tennis Specialist is responsible for planning tennis activities for grade school aged campers, leading these activities with camper groups, and overseeing other camp staff while in their classes. Preferred applicants would have prior experience teaching tennis skills to children.  Applicant must have prior experience in providing excellent customer service for parents, campers and leadership of staff.  Starting hourly wage rate $12.00, with a college degree $15.00/hr.

    PT Games Specialist-(18 yrs. and older)

    Camp Games Specialists are responsible for planning active games activities for grade school aged campers, leading these activities with camper groups, and overseeing other camp staff while in their classes. Preferred applicants would have prior experience teaching and leading active camp-type games to children. Applicant must have prior experience in providing excellent customer service for parents, campers and leadership of staff.  This position if for Monday-Friday from approximately 3:00-7:00pm during camp season. Starting hourly wage rate $12.00, with a college degree $15.00/hr.

    PT Sports Specialist-(18 yrs. and older)

    Camp Sports Specialists are responsible for planning sports activities for grade school aged campers, leading these activities with camper groups, and overseeing other camp staff while in their classes. Applicant must have prior experience in providing excellent customer service for parents, campers and leadership of staff.  This position if for Monday-Friday from approximately 3:00-7:00pm during camp season. Starting hourly wage rate $12.00, with a college degree $15.00/hr.

    FT Senior Counselors (18 yrs. and older)

    Senior Counselors are responsible for supervising Junior Counselors and camper groups, implementing day-to-day activities, assist in the planning of special events and camp activities, leading daily swim lessons, engaging children in activities, and communicating concerns and issues to parents and directors. Applicant must have prior experience in providing excellent customer service for parents, campers, and staff leadership. Must be willing and able to get into the water to assist in swim lessons daily after being trained by YMCA aquatic staff.  Starting hourly wage rate $9.25.

    PT/FT Junior Counselors (16-18 yrs. - maybe 15 with CIT experience)

    Junior Counselors are responsible for assisting Senior Counselors and Program Specialists to provide positive leadership for campers. Applicant must have good customer service skills and interested in learning how to provide excellent customer service for parents and campers. Volunteer or work experience with children required. Must be willing and able to get into the water to assist in swim lessons daily, after being trained by YMCA aquatic staff. Starting hourly wage rate is $5.50 for first time hires that are under age 18, per youth minimum wage compliance. For those 18 years or older the starting hourly wage rate is $8.38.

    PT Swim Instructors (15-17 yrs.)

    Swim Instructors are responsible for assisting camper groups with swim lessons in the early part of the camp day. Our YMCA Lifeguards train and assist our staff in leading swim lessons. Applicant must have good customer service skills and be interested in learning how to provide excellent customer service for parents and campers. Applicants must be able to encourage campers to be comfortable in the water and learn how to swim. Our campers are swim-tested and placed into appropriate levels to ensure their progression. Starting hourly wage rate is $5.50 for first time hires that are under age 18, per youth minimum wage compliance.

    Extended Care Counselor (16 years or older)

    After Camp Counselors are responsible for providing positive leadership for campers and organize activities of campers’ choice in the afternoon hours.  Applicant must have good customer service skills and be interested in learning how to provide excellent customer service for parents and campers. Volunteer or work experience with children preferred. Starting hourly wage rate is $5.50 for first time hires that are under age 18, per youth minimum wage compliance. For those 18 years or older the starting hourly wage rate is $8.38.

    The South Mountain YMCA is seeking a Full-Time hourly Welcome Center Administrator responsible for the overall business operations and member service functions at the Welcome Center.

    Essential responsibilities would include but not limited to providing high-level of member service in a professional and welcoming manner and presenting accurate information to all inquiries with regards to programs and services via phone, email and in person. The position is responsible to support overall branch operations by ensuring that all program, camp and membership registrations and transactions are processed in a timely manner and provide the Directors with the necessary reports and rosters. As the point person, the position is responsible for all open balances, setting up payment plans and tracking and processing all Financial Assistance applications and notifications. The individual is also the primary contact for all School Age Child Care (SACC) program registrations and registration changes, tracking capacity and availability, and program information. The position must ensure that all registration paperwork is properly completed and processed in coordination with SACC Directors and Association Service’s Finance Department.  Welcome Center Administrator must work with the Branch Executive Director to ensure that all paperwork is properly completed and all branch Accounts Payable is processed in accordance with the Association Services’ requirements.

  • Year-Round Program Instructors

    Become an Environmental Education & Program Instructor.
    Job responsibilities include teaching a variety of outdoor classes in the areas of ecology, natural history, team building and outdoor skills, assisting in evening programs like night hikes and camp fires, and developing new curriculum. A BA/BS is preferred but not required, however a love and wonder of the natural world, and an enthusiasm to work with children are requirements of the successful applicants. Being a team player and flexible in your teaching style is also vital.
    Instructors have the opportunity to work with schools, youth & adult groups & families through our Environmental Education & Conference Programs.
