Site Supervisors

Minimum Requirements: Very organized with experience leading staff and working with children in a group setting in Before/After School programs. High school diploma required, college credits/degree preferred. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate well with parents and school staff is essential.  

Group Leaders and Group Assistants

Minimum Requirement: Ability to lead and/or assist children with positive group activities in a nurturing environment. Candidates will be a positive role model ensuring safety of the children at all times.

Schedule: Monday - Friday

Before Care: some sites 7:15am - 8:30am; some sites 7:30am – 8:45am

After Care: some sites 2:15pm - 6:30pm; some sites 2:30pm – 7:00pm.

Enrichment and Family Program Director

The Wayne YMCA is seeking an Enrichment and Family Program Director who can work with our mission and policies as a team player. Under the direction of the Associate Executive Director, the Enrichment and Family Program Director is responsible for the overall operation, development and implementation of strategies and programs that acquire family members and that engage youth, adults and families in the Wayne YMCA’s Sports & Recreation, Teen/Family, School Age Child Care and Camp departments in a safe environment that complies with YMCA best practices. The position is responsible for staff and budget management, communicating with parents, establishing procedures, and ensuring all programs in their area reflect the YMCA’s commitment to child safety.

Major areas of responsibility and accountability include, but are not limited to:

  • Recruit, hire, train, develop, schedule and direct personnel and volunteers as assigned; review and evaluate staff performance; develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals – all in accordance with Branch and Association guidelines.
  • Process payroll and monitor staff hours and schedules according to the YMCA’s procedures.
  • Develop and monitor program budget(s) to meet fiscal objectives in accordance with the YMCA’s procedures.
  • Direct and supervise program activities to meet YMCA objectives. Adhere to Licensing requirements.
  • Expand youth, adult and family programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Perform any additional duties that may enhance the experience for participants while influencing growth and quality of the programs within the established guidelines of the YMCA. Assist in Marketing and distribution of information as needed.
  • Organize and schedule program registrations through eFinesstri, monitor sign-ups and wait lists, etc. as needed.
  • Purchase and monitor necessary sporting equipment according to the YMCA’s procedures.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations. This includes but is not limited to: securing and scheduling athletic fields, schools and other facilities, gymnasium and recruiting local coaches to partner in programming.
  • Ensure a high level of member and participant satisfaction in programs.
  • Attend all scheduled staff and program meetings. Attend and participate association-wide Quality Team meetings as requested.
  • Acquire and onboard new family members and actively engage with existing family members in order to assist them with meeting their needs as family members.
  • Develop and implement new and innovative family programs, workshops, events etc. in response to member needs.
  • Manage all aspects of Childwatch operations.
  • Coordinate all aspects of the Adult Sports Leagues program including promotion and registration, securing facilities or fields for play, maintaining score sheets, providing scores to local papers, and recognition of league winners.
  • Schedule and promote Youth Sports Classes and Clinics based at the Branch as well as at off-site location(s). Develop new and innovative programs that promote retention and continued involvement in YMCA programs.
  • Coordinate all aspects of Youth Basketball League including program promotion and registration, assigning players to teams, scheduling team practices and games, distributing sport rules and program guidelines, ordering and distributing team t-shirts, scheduling team pictures, and recruitment and recognition of team sponsors.
  • Develop and implement Teen sports, recreation and enrichment programming that includes but is not limited to the operation of the Teen Center.
  • Manage operation of, and introduce more effective programs to, the Middle School Initiative (MSI).
  • Direct and supervise all facets of the Branch Summer Camp program. Direct and supervise daily operations of White Pines Day Camp. This includes but is not limited to program activities, early bird marketing, camp reunion/open houses, training camp staff, and parent tours and orientations before camp begins.
  • Ensure a high quality and safe summer camp program that includes responding to parental concerns and providing a positive environment for campers and staff.
  • Assist and participate in planning special events as requested i.e. Healthy Kids Day, Wayne Day, etc.
  • Ensure all assigned strategic objectives are met.
  • Participate in workshops, trainings and seminars that will enhance professional growth.
  • Participate and become an active storyteller during Annual Campaign.
  • Demonstrate and model the YMCA’s four core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
  • Exhibit personal and professional behavior in a manner consistent with the best interest of the Association, so as not to bring discredit to the Association.

Environmental Education/Conference Instructors

Are you interested in teaching children about themselves and the nature that surrounds them? Fairview Lake YMCA Camps is a year-round residential outdoor education program that focuses on hands-on experiential education and outdoor courses for children in grades 2-8. Fairview Lake is located in the Northwest corner of New Jersey surrounded by 660 acres of swamp, forest and fields. We also reside on a mile long lake, our name sake. We are only an hour and a half drive to New York City!

Fairview Lake Environmental Education and Conference Instructors will teach pre-approved academic curriculum for ecologies, facilitate the teambuilding course, and lead campfires and night hikes. Environmental Education classes are a major portion of lessons led, however, some recreational activities like boating, climbing wall and orienteering occur regularly. Everyone will also lend a hand when it comes to projects; a few examples being: fixing equipment, upkeep of cabins and wood-splitting.

Swim Instructors:

Responsible for teaching Progressive Swim programs. Must ensure the safety of all students enrolled in classes while making learning experience enjoyable and fun for all the participants. Required to maintain the physical demands of the position and possess strong interpersonal skills to maintain a trusting relationship with children, parents, staff, and community and be able to fulfill responsibilities in accordance with YMCA standards.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Certified as a Swim Instructor with the Red Cross or the YMCA.
  • Must have prior experience with children in a similar teaching setting.
  • Must be able to teach classes of up to 8 swimmers.
  • Must be able to teach different swim strokes and water acclimation for ages three through adults.
  • Must learn the curriculum for all swim levels.

Theater Technical Coordinator

The East Orange YMCA is seeking a Full Time Welcome Center Associate to serve as the front line person to greet and assist their members, visitors, and clients.  Primary responsibilities include greeting, assisting members, answering phone calls, providing accurate information to all inquiries in a friendly and professional manner, promoting, selling, and registering membership, events and programs, money transactions, file documentation and providing administrative support to the Branch Executive Director.   • Greet members & guests professionally and cordially on a consistent basis and with smile and with enthusiasm as they enter & leave the YMCA. Become aware of members’ needs and efficiently respond to their inquiries.
  • Use Listen First skills during consultations, tours, and the overall interactions with members, guests and co-workers.
  • Learn members’ names. Verify all patrons for membership upon entering building. Confirm memberships are current in our membership database. Enter member access to the facility.
  • Answer telephone within 3 rings and with appropriate phone protocol. Answer questions about our facility and programs clearly and in a caring manner. When uncertain of the answer to a question, obtain the inquiring party’s contact information and verify that a staff person will get back to them promptly. Transfer calls properly and take accurate messages for staff persons who are not available.
  • Handle negative feedback in a courteous manner; Forward members’ suggestions to immediate supervisor.
  • Refer members to the appropriate Y staff person for further information whenever necessary.
  • Ensure that members and guests feel welcome at the Y. Promote positive member relation both with staff and with other members.
  • Maintain a professional appearance. Wear name tag and YMCA staff shirt during work shifts. Wear pants other than jeans or sweatpants. (Loose fitting shorts no shorter than knee length are permissible during the warm months of the year). Closed shoes or sneakers are permissible; No excessively high heels.
  • Properly process each end of shift report so that all paperwork matches all monetary transactions properly.
  • Charge appropriate fees for services according to the YMCA policies, procedures and the membership type.
  • Receipt program and facility registrations promptly and accurately.
  • Arrive for work shifts in a timely manner, and work the entire shift as scheduled unless coverage for a portion of the shift has been pre-arranged.
  • Find replacement for shift if unable to work. Notify supervisor in advance of the substitution arrangement whenever possible. Avoid excessive requests for shift coverage, unless there is a medical or an emergency situation that must be addressed.
  • Do not leave the Welcome Center Desk unattended unless there is a true emergency situation.
  • Address emergency situations promptly, professionally and in accordance with our emergency procedures. Distribute Band-Aids and ice as needed. Complete accident reports for any medical situations requiring our attention. Complete incident reports for any unusual situations that occur during work shifts. Notify senior staff on duty of these situations promptly.

OTHER DUTIES:

  • Participate in and support the Annual Campaign.
  • Provide feedback to supervisor in a timely manner.

Year-Round Program Instructors

Become an Environmental Education & Program Instructor.
Job responsibilities include teaching a variety of outdoor classes in the areas of ecology, natural history, team building and outdoor skills, assisting in evening programs like night hikes and camp fires, and developing new curriculum. A BA/BS is preferred but not required, however a love and wonder of the natural world, and an enthusiasm to work with children are requirements of the successful applicants. Being a team player and flexible in your teaching style is also vital.
Instructors have the opportunity to work with schools, youth & adult groups & families through our Environmental Education & Conference Programs.
