Position: Certified Preschool Child Care Teacher

YMCA: Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges –  South Mountain YMCA Child Care Center

Location: Maplewood, New Jersey

The South Mountain YMCA Child Care Center is seeking an experienced Certified Preschool Child Care Teacher to join our team.    
Under the general direction of the Child Care Site Director of the South Mountain YMCA, the Child Care Teacher is responsible for the planning, development and implementation of all classroom activities and maintaining the physical appearance of the classroom to meet NAEYC standards.  The Child Care Teacher will supervise and train Teacher Assistants to comply with the YMCA’s policies and philosophy of education; be a liaison between the Site Director and families participating in the child care program; and will adhere to the guidelines outlined in the Staff Manual. This is a 12-month position and includes supervisory responsibilities during summer day camp.  

Qualifications:
•    Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field
•    Teacher’s Certification
•    Must have a minimum of two years teaching experience in a group setting with preschool children.
•    Experience in curriculum implementation, classroom management and parental communication.
•    Requires excellent written and verbal communication, computer and interpersonal skills.
•    Exemplifies the YMCA values and understands the YMCA mission.

Primary Duties:
•    Manage the organization, appearance and décor of the assigned classroom (i.e. bulletin boards, displays, storage areas, general cleanliness, etc.)
•    Implement an age appropriate curriculum and plan enrichment activities to include art, music, circle time, and outdoor and free play.
•    Submit written curriculum plans to the Site Director on the assigned day.
•    Plan and organize field trips, special visitors, and educational movies to enhance classroom activities.
•    Share and discuss lesson plans with Teacher Assistants and supervise their performance as it relates to the curriculum and Center philosophy.
•    Maintain adequate classroom supplies by monitoring materials and informing the Child Care Site Director when orders are necessary.
•    Provide consistent interaction, encouragement and nurturance for all children on all levels (floor sitting at tables, etc.)
•    Mentor Teacher Assistants to enhance their professional growth.
•    Maintain all records including attendance, accident reports, daily logs, parent sign in/out book, medical records and time sheets, in  compliance
     with state regulations and YMCA policies.
•    Communicate with parents on a regular basis through newsletters, memos, and the spoken word.
•    Maintain a healthy and safe classroom environment for children.
•    Participate in Parent Advisory Committee and YMCA sponsored special events.
•    Responsible for oversight and supervision of various aspects of day camp.
•    Model and enforce appropriate and positive discipline techniques as established by the policies of the Center.
•    Participate in required trainings and workshops to enhance professional growth.
•    Assist the Child Care Site Director in providing in-house training sessions.
