YMCA Child Care… a safe place to be.

For more than 100 years, the YMCA has demonstrated the highest standard of quality in childcare and is, in fact, the largest provider of childcare in the United States. The Metro YMCAs of the Oranges is the largest Association of YMCAs in New Jersey, and its child care programs offer children, ages 6 weeks to 14 years old, an opportunity to explore, develop and learn under the caring supervision of competent and trained professionals. All teachers are experienced and certified by the state of New Jersey in Early Childhood Education, while teacher assistants and caregivers receive professional YMCA training.

The YMCA is licensed by the New Jersey Department of Human Service and is regularly inspected by their professional staff regarding standards, curriculum and safety. The West Essex YMCA Peanut Shell Child Care Center and the East Orange YMCA are both accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). The East Orange YMCA also participates in the Abbott Program and Catholic Charities, and accepts Programs for Parents and DYFS Vouchers.

All of this means YMCA Child Care Centers are safe, healthy, loving environments where children can learn and grow, experiencing creative, enriching programs, small classes with personal attention and outdoor playgrounds with modern and safe equipment. In addition, the YMCA provides Extended Day and Vacation Care Programs, which offer a safe place for children to do homework, participate in arts & crafts, gym activities, games and special events. Nutritious snacks and transportation are provided at some locations.

The Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges also offers quality Before & After School Programs in many of the school districts in your Branch’s service area.  These programs provide children with a safe and fun environment where they can participate in a variety of enrichment activities and receive homework help from experienced instructors.
