Adult Programs

Our adult exercise classes and sports programs promote fitness and well-being while fostering community. Make new friends, increase your self-confidence and improve your spiritual, mental and physical health.  Now we offer an easy drop-in program where no membership is required for these four Adult Classes.  Please call (973) 762-4145 for more information.

Starting Monday, September 15th!
An open-level class in the strengthening core exercises of Joseph Pilates. These exercises are executed on the floor on a small mat in a sequence perfect for developing your core muscles through focused, centered, controlled, conditioning through your every breath. Learn the correct positioning for safety and effective movement. “The Movement will Make the Change.” Class size is limited.
Mondays 6:00pm - 7:00pm
Location: YMCA Multi-Purpose Room
Fee: $10 Drop in fee per class. First time participants, please arrive at least 5 minutes early to register.

New - PILATES INSTRUCTION  in the Joseph Pilates Classic Method (Ages 18+)
One-on-one individual programmed hour sessions in Mat and on the apparatus, reformer, tower, and ladder barrel. Every client begins in a different place depending on his or her life experience and physical capabilities. Through the centuries old Method, learn to strengthen and lengthen your muscles, improve posture, and insure your body to function at its best. Experience a healthier lifestyle and make positive changes in body and mind. Find a partner and enjoy a duet session for the same price.

Come join us early Tuesday mornings for Sunrise Yoga at the Y. It will be great for waking up the energy of your body to get your day started with a bright feeling. This is an all level class which focuses on the breath and on alignment in slow flowing vinyasa sequences. You will start with a warm up then move through sun salutations leading to an exploration of the asanas. The class is taught by certified yoga instructor Varrita Siryon. Wear comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat or borrow one from the Y.

ZUMBA® (Ages 18+)
Come participate in this fun and exciting class. Certified Zumba instructors Carole Smith and Dionne Colon's high energy and enthusiasm are contagious and will help you get in great shape, relieve stress and burn calories - while having a blast. The Zumba® program fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy-to-follow moves to create a one-of-a-kind fitness program that will blow you away. The routines feature interval training sessions where fast and slow rhythms and resistance training are combined to tone and sculpt your body while burning fat. All levels welcome, you don’t have to be a good dancer to do this class, must be 18 years of age or older.

PRAISEMOVES (Ages 18+)
Starting up again October 2014
PraiseMoves has been called the “Christian alternative to yoga”. This class uses gentle movement in a series of deep stretching and strength-building postures, each linked to Scripture verse, which is focused upon, while doing the postures. PraiseMoves is performed through full ranges of movement that include gentle, deep diaphragmatic breathing that strives to balance flexibility, strength, endurance and relaxation. By improving your flexibility and strengthening your muscles with PraiseMoves, you will not only enhance your ability to perform daily tasks, you will also improve your posture, help alleviate common aches and pains, reduce back pain, and increase your overall sense of health and well-being. People of all faiths are welcome in this class and would benefit physically, emotionally, and spiritually from it. Please bring your own roll-up exercise mat and water bottle.

Location: Civic House - 124 Dunnell Road, Maplewood - Across from where the old Police Station was.

TOTAL BODY KICK (Ages 18+) Previously call Cardio Kickboxing 
Starting up again October 2014
Feel great with this all-over, stress-busting workout! This one hour class begins with a fun, heart-pumping, cardio kickboxing segment, followed by toning, sculpting and strengthing on the mat. Appropriate for all fitness and skill levels.

Adult recreational 4x4 pick-up games. Must be among the first 20 people to play.

ADULT ADVANCED VOLLEYBALL (Ages 18+)
Recreational pick-up games for skilled volleyball players.

Y DIABETES PREVENTION PROGRAM (Ages 18+)
The YMCA's Diabetes Prevention Program helps individuals at high risk adopt and maintain a healthy lifestyle to reduce chances of developing Type 2 Diabetes.
