Wayne YMCA Child Care for ages 5-11

Wayne YMCA After School Program

The YMCA Afterschool Program is much more than a place for kids to run and play (although we do that too).  We focus on nurturing the potential of every child with homework help and STEM activities, while providing parents peace of mind knowing their child is safe.

A Typical Day in the YMCA After School Program...

3:45-4:05pm - Healthy Snack: All children will receive a healthy snack upon arrival each day.  A healthy snack could consist of yogurt, crackers, piece of fruit and granola bar.

4:05-4:45pm - Homework Time: Homework Club is held for up to forty-five minutes each day and offers your child an opportunity to start their homework with guidance from our staff.  Homework Club is mandatory; however if your child has no homework on a particular day, he or she can participate in other activities during this time.

4:45-5:15pm - Physical Activity: Each day, children will participate in games utilizing the CATCH (Coordinated Approach to Children’s Health) Curriculum. This curriculum focuses on having fun while ensuring that every child has the ability to participate and exercise for more than 30 minutes a day.

Sample CATCH games schedule:
Monday: Dragon Tales (a capture the flag-style game)
Tuesday: Octopus Tag (a hula hoop tag game)
Wednesday: Hot Spot Kickball
Thursday: See Ya’ Later, Alligator
(an everybody’s IT game)
Friday: Junkyard (active charades-style game)

5:15-6:00pm - Specialty Enrichment Activities: Each day your child has two specialty activities to choose from.  Tuesday is recreational swim day.

All specialty enrichment activities are included in the program fee.

Sample Specialty Enrichment Activity Schedule:
Monday: Archery/Arts and Crafts
Tuesday: Swimming
Wednesday: Soccer/Dance
Thursday: Creative Dramatics/Basketball
Friday: Cooking/Science

6:00-7:00pm - Supervised Games and Pick Up Time: While waiting for parents to pick up, children will participate in supervised games and activities.

We offer the nationally recognized Healthy U program using the CATCH curriculum:  Our staff seeks to positively influence children’s attitudes and behaviors towards nutrition and physical activity.  We incorporate 30 minutes of fun physical activity into our program each day and serve healthy snacks.  We also provide information about the Healthy U program and CATCH for children to take home so families can participate in healthy eating and healthy activities together throughout the year.

This Typical After School Sample Schedule is subject to change.
