The Wayne YMCA Bluestreaks long course season begins in the Spring. The difference between short course and long course YMCA swimming is not only the distance of events but the length of the pool. Most Olympic and World Championship meets are held on long course pools. As a result, the long course swimming season is a good opportunity for your child to swim and train for Olympic-style events. Long course swimming requires a good foundation of skills and techniques because it emphasizes the need to increase the strength of the swimmer. The training program for long course will focus on building endurance for each swimmer since there are less flip-turns. The training program will focus on understanding and executing a successful long course swimming strategy.
Swim team is open to all swimmers ages 8-19 who are capable of swimming all four strokes. All new swimmers must schedule a time to tryout with the head coach. This program will help current swim team members continue their progression and endurance. This will also help new swim team members increase their endurance, improve stroke techniques and allow them to be part of a competitive environment. The long course non competitive team includes swimmers in the Intro, Novice, and Junior swim team groups.
