Peanut Shell Camp

For campers aged 3 - 5 years

At Camp Peanut Shell, our youngest children receive a first insight into a Y camp that will stay with them through their entire childhood. Our caring and experienced staff provides a supportive environment for campers to learn, thrive and grow.

Each camp session is built around a fun theme that engages the campers in learning indoors and out. Campers start the day with morning camp circle then follow a daily schedule which includes opportunities to be active, learn new skills and reinforce lessons learned in pre-school in a fun, hands-on way.

Camp Peanut Shell activities include STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) projects, gardening in our vegetable garden, arts and crafts, cooking, sports clinics, music and movement. Campers enjoy instructional swim lessons and gym time twice a week at the West Essex YMCA.

Each session includes a special trip and educational programs. Field trips allow campers to explore the world beyond camp under the careful supervision of the Peanut Shell staff. Parents are welcome to join trips as chaperones.

Previous trips have included the Essex County Environmental Center, World of Wings and the Newark Museum Planetarium. Please note – campers must be toilet trained to participate in field trips.

“Camp Peanut Shell was an incredible experience for our daughter. She made a lot of new friends and learned so much. The teachers were also great. She now comes home and practices her ABC’s and 123’s. We felt very comfortable at Peanut Shell from day one” - Camp Peanut Shell Parent
