LIVINGSTON, NJ - The Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges will hold its 26th Annual Golf Tournament on Sept. 21 at the award-winning Montclair Golf Club, 25 Prospect Ave. in West Orange.

The tournament raises money for the Y for All Fund, which helps people with extenuating financial circumstances access the Y’s programs and services.

"Our Annual Golf Tournament is our largest and longest running fundraising event. This year’s event is more consequential than any other as our Y and the communities we serve have been devastated due to COVID-19," said Richard K. Gorab, president and CEO of the Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges and Golf Tournament Committee member. "Even when our Ys closed due to the pandemic, we continued to serve our communities by providing child care for essential workers, academic support programs for our youth, food and basic needs to families, and connections for isolated seniors - all while the Y faced its own financial challenges. We continue to provide these critical services and more, and the golf tournament will enable us to help so many more people who rely on the Y.”

This year’s Golf Outing will look a little different in order to adhere to Federal and State guidelines for social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic. The traditional pre-event brunch will not be held, however, an outdoor barbecue lunch and refreshments will be provided during the day. Attendees are invited to enjoy cocktails and d'oeuvres post-golf, and a presentation on the Y’s impact in the community, all taking place outdoors on the Golf Club patio. All guests will receive a custom-made YMCA adjustable face mask.

Due to COVID restrictions, the number of golfers will be limited to 72. Tickets are available for the two-hour cocktail reception and presentation portion of the event, for $125.

The Y is accepting sponsors for tee signs ($300), refreshment stations ($1,500), and putting greens ($1,000) during the event. Anyone can make a donation to support the Y, or sponsor a child to attend summer camp next season.

The tournament is being presented by Eastman Companies, One Wall Management, and Suburban Consulting Engineers, Inc.

It is the YMCA’s goal this year to provide nearly $1.5 million in direct financial assistance to members at the Y’s seven branches: East Orange, Fairview Lake, Greater Bergen County, South Mountain, Sussex County, Wayne, and West Essex YMCAs.

“This event is a great opportunity to give back to the community by helping underserved children and families,” said Susan Ascher, founder and co-chair of the Metro YMCAs Annual Golf Tournament. “Over the last 26 years, the outing has experienced challenges: both economic and those of Mother Nature. This year, the Covid-19 pandemic is in play. In spite of this unprecedented time, we are sold out!”

“Year after year, our staff, volunteers and golfers have stayed true, and we have had an amazing impact on our community. Most of all, it’s just always a wonderful time, great fun, and a terrific cause,” she added.

"We wanted to see this important tradition continue despite the pandemic, especially because families need the Y's services and support more than ever right now. Fundraising efforts like these enable us to continue serving our communities during these difficult times,” said Co-Chair Stuart Vorcheimer.
