Annual Golf Tournament Raises Thousands for YMCA’s Financial Assistance Fund

LIVINGSTON, NJ - The Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges held its 26th Annual Golf Tournament on Sept. 21, raising $118,000 for the Y’s “Y for All” Fund, which helps reduce the cost of Y programs for individuals and families experiencing financial hardship.

“Despite a scaled-back event this year due to Covid-19, the tournament was a big success and will enable us to help people in our communities who are most in need of the Y’s services right now,” said Dan Elwell, Chief Development Officer for the Metro YMCAs. “We are grateful for all the sponsors, attendees, staff, and volunteers who helped to champion the Y’s cause through this important event.”

The Annual Golf Tournament is the Metro Y’s largest and longest fundraising event. Proceeds from the golf outing will go right back into the community, supporting the Y’s goal this year to provide nearly $1.5 million in direct financial assistance to members of the Metro Y’s seven branches: East Orange, Fairview Lake, Greater Bergen County, South Mountain, Sussex County, Wayne, and West Essex YMCAs. 

This year’s sold-out outing was held at the award-winning and historic Montclair Golf Club in West Orange, and presented by Eastman Companies, One Wall Management, and Suburban Consulting Engineers, Inc. Chairpersons were Susan Ascher, who founded the tournament 26 years ago, and Stuart Vorcheimer. 

Attendees enjoyed an afternoon of golf, lunch, and a post-golf reception on the patio, with a presentation on the Y’s impact on the community. The Metro YMCAs have provided relief throughout the pandemic, through outreach services like food distribution, blood drives, Emergency Child Care for frontline workers, and Y employee assistance. 

The Y for All Fund helps families suffering from loss of income, medical bills, or other stressors as a result of unforeseen events like the pandemic. Anyone is welcome to apply for funds, which can be used to reduce the cost of life-changing programs like child care, memberships, or summer camp at the Y.
