The YMCA is much more than just a “swim and gym.” Beyond child care, fitness and swim lessons, the YMCA provides a place for the whole family to enjoy time together while improving their health and well-being. Did you know these ways in which the Y serves families?
1. Adult/child classes
Young children and their caregivers can learn and exercise together through classes and workshops. Kids can have fun doing hands-on activities in science or art alongside a parent, or learn a sport or game with their parents. The South Mountain YMCA offers adult-child classes at no cost to anyone holding a Family Facility Membership at the Metro YMCA branches.
2. Family swim
Families can get active together by enjoying the indoor pool. Swimming offers a number of physical and mental health benefits for people of all ages, in addition to just being fun. Check your local YMCA pool schedule for family swim times.
3. Volunteer opportunities
Looking for ways to get involved in the community? We hold opportunities throughout the year to volunteer with family members through YMCA programs and fundraising events. For volunteer opportunities, contact Nicholas Hohn, Director of Annual Giving and Special Events, at nhohn@metroymcas.org.
4. Family events
Families have fun together and get to know other families by enjoying special events or seasonal festivities at their Y. Check with your local Y for upcoming events as some may required advanced registration.
5. Birthday parties
The Y can help celebrate your child’s special day, while making use of the facility features and even adding cool themes. Ask Y staff about party options available*.
6. Virtual and on-demand activities
Take the Y with you! The whole family can access the Y from anywhere at anytime with YMCA 360. Stream live and on-demand arts, youth sports, and wellness programming, and much more.
*Offerings vary by location.
