Y Staff Story: Making an Impact through Swim Programs

Kevin Naser
Name: Kevin Naser
First YMCA Role: Volunteer
Current Job Role: Aquatics Coordinator
How many years at your current Y: About 6 years
Q: How did your YMCA career begin?
A: I started at the Y as a volunteer in middle school for summer camp and special events (i.e. Healthy Kids Day, Family Fun Nights, etc). I was very involved in the Leader's Club and had the opportunity to attend Leaders Camp. Once I turned 16, I began working in Child Watch and summer camp. Over the years, I’ve sought out every opportunity to grow: I obtained my lifeguard and water safety instructor certifications, taught preschool music and movement classes, assisted with special events, been a lifeguard, and taught swim lessons.
Q: What’s great about working for the Y’s Aquatics Program?
A: As the Aquatics Coordinator for the Sussex County YMCA, I am able to deliver equitable and accessible water safety programming to our community, which in turn makes the community we serve safer and healthier. It is heartwarming and motivating to see students in our swim program progress, grow, and acquire life saving skills. Working at the Y, I am able to be a beacon for our mission of youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
Q: What do you enjoy most about working at the Y?
A: It’s difficult to narrow it down to one reason: our members and Y families that always brighten my day; the incredible team that I work with and the endless amount of support they provide for me; and the ability to make a lasting impact on families that come through our doors.
