LIVINGSTON, NJ - The Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges has raised over $20,000 during its first Camp for a Cause fundraising campaign to make summer camp experiences possible for more kids.
“Our Ys came together in a monumental way to help expand access to summer camp. We are thankful for the support of our campers and families, donors, staff, and everyone who helped make this year’s inaugural Camp for a Cause campaign a huge success. Not only did our campers learn the value of philanthropy but their efforts will have a positive impact on others in their own communities,” said Dan Elwell, Chief Development Officer at the Metro YMCA of the Oranges.
Over the summer, each of the Metro Y’s seven branches held local events and activities in which they invited campers, families, and Y members to join their “cause” and donate or volunteer. Events included a joint camp Field Day at Wayne and West Essex YMCA camps; a community Car Wash at East Orange YMCA; Walk-a-Thons at Sussex County YMCA and New Milford YMCA Program Center; a surprise Color Wars at Fairview Lake YMCA Camps; and a series of camper-led community service projects at South Mountain YMCA.
All donations go right back into the community through Y financial aid scholarships, which help cover the cost of camp for families with limited incomes. Approximately one in four campers attend Y camps through some form of financial assistance. More than 200 donations were made which will help cover future camp fees for approximately 200 families.
Contributions can still be made toward Camp for a Cause. Fundraising pages corresponding to the Metro Y’s seven Y branches can be found below:
