LIVINGSTON, NJ - The Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges held its 29th Annual Golf Tournament on Oct. 26, raising a net total of $152,740 for the Y’s “Y for All” Fund, which helps reduce the cost of Y programs for individuals and families experiencing financial hardship.

The outing also netted a record $62,150 in camp scholarships, or Camperships, which will help approximately 621 kids in need attend a Y summer camp.

The annual Golf Tournament is typically held in September but was postponed this year due to rain.

“We ended up having a beautiful day to come together and champion an important cause. Thanks to the generosity and support of our sponsors, donors, volunteers, and participants, we surpassed our fundraising goal and achieved new record highs, which will enable more people in the community to participate in Y programs and services,” said Dan Elwell, Chief Development Officer for the Metro YMCAs.

The Annual Golf Tournament is the Metro Y’s largest and longest running fundraising event. Proceeds from the golf outing will go right back into the community, supporting the Y’s goal this year to provide nearly $2 million in direct financial assistance and an additional $1.5 million in community benefits to members of the Metro Y’s seven branches: East Orange, Fairview Lake, New Milford, South Mountain, Sussex County, Wayne, and West Essex YMCAs.

This year’s outing was held at the award-winning and historic Montclair Golf Club in West Orange, and presented by Eastman Companies, NAI James E. Hanson, Russo Development, and Suburban Consulting Engineers, Inc. Tournament sponsors included Great American Insurance, McMullen Family Foundation, and Vericon Construction. Birdie Sponsors included Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center/RWJ Barnabas Health, Dale Group, Fin News, First Student, Hargrave-Kerns Family, Inserra Supermarkets, Jarmel Kizel Architects and Engineers, Inc., Lakeland Bank, Life Fitness, Mandelbaum Barrett, Peapack Gladstone Bank, S2C Contracting, and St. Joseph’s Health.

This year’s Golf Committee included Co-Chairs Susan Ascher, who founded the Golf Tournament 29 years ago, and Stuart Vorcheimer, along with Daniel P. Elwell, Sr., Ted Foung, Richard K. Gorab, Daren Phil, Peter Tanella, and Byron Yake.

Attendees enjoyed an afternoon of golf, lunch, and a post-golf reception and auction, with an inspirational presentation on the Y’s impact on the community.

The Y for All Fund helps families suffering from loss of income, medical bills, or other stressors. Anyone is welcome to apply for funds, which can be used to reduce the cost of life-changing programs like child care, memberships, or summer camp at the Y. Approximately one in five children in our child care and camp programs rely on financial assistance.
