Facility to be the first of its kind in Sussex County
HARDYSTON, NJ - The Sussex County YMCA is thrilled to announce plans to open the first standalone Pickleball Center in Sussex County in September 2024. This state-of-the-art indoor facility will be located at 11 Millpond Dr. in Lafayette, and will offer something for all pickleball skill levels.
The center’s six courts will all feature the PickleRoll tournament-standard professional surface, ensuring the highest quality playing experience. This facility will be ADA compliant and designed with players’ comfort in mind, offering both heating and air conditioning to provide the perfect playing environment year-round.
"The opening of the Pickleball Center underscores our commitment to promoting healthy living and community engagement," said Corey Brown, Executive Director of the Sussex County YMCA. "As the popularity and demand for pickleball grows, we are excited to offer a dedicated space where people can come together, stay active, and have fun. Whether you're a seasoned player or just starting, our center is designed to cater to all levels and foster a sense of community.”
Some of the additional offerings will include:
- Lessons and clinics
- League play
- Shoot-outs
- Player evaluations and ratings
The Y will be using the Pickleball Den app to enable players to reserve court time up to 15 days in advance and stay connected with the pickleball community. YMCA and community members will be able to purchase memberships to play at the facility.
Pickleball is one of the fastest-growing sports in the United States. It combines elements of badminton, tennis and ping pong and is played with solid paddles and a perforated ball similar to a wiffle ball on a short solid court with a low net.
"As part of our ongoing commitment to fostering community wellness and providing diverse recreational opportunities, we are thrilled to bring the first standalone indoor pickleball facility to the county and our YMCA association. We look forward to seeing our community thrive through the joy and camaraderie that pickleball brings," said Richard K. Gorab, President and CEO of the Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges.
“Get ready to paddle up and join the fun! Pickleball is more than just a game; it's a community where everyone can play, laugh, and grow together,” said the Y’s official pickleball mascot, Dill P. Gherkin. “Let’s ace some serves together on the court!”
The Y will share more information in the coming months about a grand opening date. To learn more about the facility and sign up for a mailing list to receive updates about the opening, visit our website.
