LIVINGSTON, NJ - The West Essex YMCA has announced the promotion of Mary Rebe to Child Care Director, overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Y’s esteemed Peanut Shell Early Learning Center. With over two decades of experience in child care administration, special education, instructional leadership, and grant writing, Rebe brings a wealth of knowledge to her position.
She joined Peanut Shell as Assistant Director in October 2024, where she distinguished herself through her leadership skills, dedication, and a thorough understanding of early childhood education. Rebe succeeds former Child Care Director Jaimie Behringer.
“I’m honored to take on the role of director at Peanut Shell. Since my arrival, I have been inspired by the warmth of our community and the commitment of our staff to creating a safe, joyful, and enriching environment for every child,” said Rebe. “My vision for Peanut Shell is to build a center where every child feels seen, valued, and empowered to grow. I want families to feel confident that their children are not only safe and cared for but also thriving in an environment that celebrates their individuality and nurtures their potential.”
Rebe’s career reflects a strong commitment to improving program quality, fostering robust partnerships with families and staff, and driving innovation through community outreach and strategic planning. She has led programs across New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New Mexico, consistently enhancing program quality, securing funding, and strengthening partnerships. Her previous leadership at Green Trees Early Learning Center in Milford, Penn., earned her the Gold Award for Equity in Early Childhood Education, and she holds a valid PA Director Credential. Additionally, she contributed to the PA Ad-Hoc Subcommittee for rewriting child care licensing regulations, demonstrating her impact on statewide policy.
Her recent achievements include spearheading the Grow NJ Kids Pilot Program, aligning business, curriculum, and community growth objectives, and doubling program revenue through improved marketing strategies and quality enhancements.
“Mary’s promotion reflects the outstanding contributions she has made to our child care center and her unwavering commitment to excellence,” said Cheryl Tuturice, Executive Director of West Essex YMCA. “We are confident that Mary’s vision, experience, and dedication will continue to enrich the lives of our children, families, and staff.”
