East Orange YMCA

Healthy Lifestyles

At the Y, we understand that health begins at home and we support families in their efforts to build the five pillars that support a healthy family home: EAT HEALTHY, PLAY EVERY DAY, GET TOGETHER, GO OUTSIDE and SLEEP WELL.

As a leading nonprofit for strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, the Y believes that all people should be able to live life to its fullest, healthiest potential.  In the YMCA's Diabetes Prevention Program a trained lifestyle coach will introduce topics in a small classroom setting and encourage participants as they explore how healthy eating, physical activity and behavior changes can benefit their health.

Encouraging Healthy Habits

A leader in childhood obesity prevention, the Y is committed to keeping kids active, especially during critical after school hours.

Through a partnership with The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey, the Healthy U health & physical activity initiative is incorporated in all East Orange YMCA Preschool and Afterschool programs for youth.

The program is designed to combat childhood obesity by instituting behavioral changes in children using a multi-pronged approach that includes nutrition education, increased physical activity and a family focus.

Find out about the East Orange YMCA's dedication to help prevent childhood obesity through KaBOOM! Community Build Playground Project and their Healthy U Annual Event.
