Calling all future leaders! Our CIT Program is for teens ages 13–16 who want to build skills, gain experience, and have an awesome summer! CITs dive into leadership workshops, help run camp activities, visit college campuses, and work with our staff to learn what it takes to be a great camp counselor.

Hours of daily movement, real social friction, unstructured time, and a sense of mattering to a group — things school can’t easily give them. After a summer at camp, you may be pleasantly surprised to see your child come home happy and more independent. If it’s your child’s first time at camp, check out photos and videos from our YMCA summer camps on our Facebook page, so you both know what to expect!

If your child is excited to go, that’s the best sign. For sleepaway camp, we generally suggest waiting until age 7 and trying a night at a relative’s house first. Not sure? Call the camp office at 973-673-5588 and we’ll tell you honestly whether it’s the right fit.

The Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges makes it easy to register your children online! If you do not have an online account set up yet, go to SGA pulse and create one. Please Note: Your child must have a valid YMCA membership at the time of registration and while attending summer camp to receive the membership rate. If your child does not have a membership when camp starts and during the time they’re away at camp, the fees will be adjusted to our community member rate. You must register online to guarantee a spot.

Counselors who have been screened, background-checked and trained before camp starts. Many of our lead staff work at the Y year-round, so the person greeting your child in July may already know your family.

No. Any family can register. A valid YMCA membership gets you the member rate; everyone else pays the community rate.

Breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack are included. For swim days: swimsuit, cap, towel, change of clothes, rubber-soled shoes and a plastic bag for wet things.

Our camps are accredited by the American Camp Association and Praesidium. Every counselor is screened, background-checked and trained before camp starts, and swimming is supervised by certified lifeguards.

December 1, 2026. Returning 2026 campers get priority registration Dec. 1–18; member and community registration follow by branch.
