Code of Conduct
Member and Participant Protection Policy
We take very seriously the safety and well-being of our members and participants and, to that end, have established policies and procedures that protect people (and particularly children) utilizing our programs and facilities. The law imposes an affirmative duty on the YMCA and its members and participants to prevent child abuse, bullying or other forms of abusive behavior. Any person having reasonable cause to believe that a child has been subjected to child abuse or acts of child abuse is to report this immediately. Such reports, where possible, shall contain the names and addresses of the child and his parent, guardian, or other person having custody and control of the child and, if known, the child's age, the nature and possible extent of the child's injuries, abuse or maltreatment, including any evidence of previous injuries, abuse or maltreatment, and any other information that the person believes may be helpful with respect to the child abuse and the identity of the perpetrator.
The YMCA reserves the right to deny access or membership to any person. This includes but is not limited to, any person engaged in child abuse or bullying as well as those persons who are known to have been accused or convicted of any crime involving child abuse, sexual abuse or is a registered sex offender. By signing the Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges membership form you certify that neither you nor anyone on your membership has been accused or convicted of a criminal offense listed above.
All members and participants must recognize that the Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges is dedicated to the welfare of all. In order to maintain a consistent and cooperative environment, the Management of the YMCA requests that all members and participants using its facilities refrain from the use of foul language, abusive actions or inappropriate behavior and recognize that good sportsmanship, fair play and a cooperative attitude govern behavior at all times. Rules for participation in a program are the same for everyone without regard to race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability. It is understood that everyone will be treated as individuals and respect shown for reasonable differences in tastes, preferences, abilities, and range of behavior patterns. Respect others as well as the buildings, equipment and the natural environment. Refrain from smoking, possessing alcoholic beverages, firearms or other weapons and any illegal substances. Adult members should avoid conversations with unrelated minors and refrain from being alone with unrelated minors while using the facility.
The YMCA reserves the right to dismiss someone from the organization whose conduct is not in the best interest of the YMCA, without refund. Failure to observe this code may result in the termination of privileges. The loaning of your membership card will result in termination of membership privileges.
Concussion Testing and Return-to-Play Policy
The Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges “YMCA” adopts this Policy as a measure to protect the safety, health, and welfare of members participating in athletic programs. The YMCA believes a concussion testing and return-to-play policy for members suspected of sustaining a concussion will protect the member from risk of more serious health problems. The YMCA requires strict adherence to this Policy in the event a member may have sustained a head injury or an injury that could cause a concussion.
If it is suspected a member sustained an injury that could cause a concussion or if signs observed by others or symptoms reported by the member are those signs and symptoms of a concussion, the member’s parents will be contacted by appropriate YMCA personnel, the member will be immediately removed from the activity and the member will not be allowed to return to practice or play until the member receives a medical examination conducted by the member’s physician. The member’s physician must make a determination on the presence/absence of a concussion.
If the member is concussed or injured, the physician will appropriately treat the member and shall be required to provide a medical release, without limitations, indicating when the member is able to return to the activity.
If the member’s physician determines the member is not concussed or injured, the physician shall be required to provide a medical release, without limitations, with a return-to-play date. Physician clearance notes that are inconsistent with this concussion policy may not be accepted by the YMCA.
Member’s that have sustained a concussion may return to full participation when he/she meets the criteria above. All coaches and sport directors must complete a Concussion Training Program that is stipulated by YMCA management.
A copy of this Policy will be provided to the parents or guardians of all members prior to their participation in a YMCA athletic program. Parent or guardians shall be required to acknowledge receipt of this Policy.
