South Mountain YMCA

After School Care Program

School Age Child Care (SACC) extends your child’s learning day in a fun and meaningful way! We emphasize the Y’s four core values: caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in all activities. SACC serves children in all elementary schools for the South Orange/Maplewood School District and follows the School District’s Calendar. We offers Vacation Camp, a Child Care Program, for most of the days that the school district is scheduled to be closed. We also offer Snow Camp, for most school snow days.

This 5 day/week program follows the South Mountain/Maplewood School District calendar. This includes all scheduled half days. Students need to bring a peanut-free lunch on scheduled half days.  Our programs are canceled when schools close for inclement weather or other school emergencies.

AFTER CARE PROGRAM: On-Site and Off-Site

Includes: A healthy snack, activity time: art & crafts, character development, STEAM, games, dance, outdoor play/organized recreation and a designated quiet time when homework is encouraged.

The Horizon Blue Cross Foundation has sponsored a 'Healthy U!' program, for all New Jersey YMCA After School Care programs. Our aim is to combat childhood obesity by creating behavioral changes through nutrition education, increased physical activity and a focus on family. All SACC participants have a minimum of 30 minutes of physical activity and are offered healthy snack choices each day. The CATCH (Coordinated Approach to Child Health) program is also applied which guides children and families to develop healthier habits and lifestyles.

ON-SITE After School Care Programs run from school dismissal until 6:30pm. Your child will be directed to their school cafeteria after dismissal. These programs have the convenience of remaining at their school and have the ease to join other school related programs for which you may choose to register. After Care at school sites fee is $315/month. It is mandatory to call the site directly if your child is going to be absent. Failure to communicate any absence results in $15 Failure to Communicate Fee.
