Youth Sports & Recreation Program in Wayne, NJ

The Y offers a variety of opportunities for children to lead healthy lifestyles through fun and fitness.  Classes range from basketball and tennis, to flag football and soccer.  There are so many ways to make new friends and stay safe in a supportive environment.  Click here for information on age policies in the gymnasium and fitness center.  Click here for a gymnasium schedule.  Scroll down to view all classes for all ages.

Preschool Sports Classes

Sports Galore
Introduction to a variety of sports through skill building and functional movement games.
Ages 3-5 years
Tuesdays or Thursdays, 12:00-12:50pm

Kinder Karate
This classes focuses on concentration, flexibility, agility, balance and fun along with skill development in basic karate techniques.
Ages 4-5 years
Wednesdays, 12-12:50pm

Youth and Teen Sports & Fitness Classes


Learn the fundamentals of basketball (dribbling, passing, shooting and defense) along with the team concepts of offensive play and zone defense - all done in a fun, values-oriented environment.

5-6 year olds, 4:10-5:00pm

New! Advanced Basketball Clinic
For basketball players looking to take their game to the next level. Learn advanced drills and injury prevention techniques.
Ages 14-17 years
Fridays, 6:30-7:30pm

Develop the fundamentals of throwing, catching, fielding, hitting and base running.
Ages 4-6 years
Tuesdays, 4:10-5:00pm

Learn proper techniques, footwork, singles, doubles strategies, combinations drills and games.
6-10 year olds, 4:10-5:00pm
6-10 year olds, 9:00-9:50am
11-14 year olds, 10:00-10:50am

Beginner Cheerleading
Learn the basic cheer motions, jumps, and stunts! At the end of this 8-week session, students will perform a mini routine.
Ages 5-10 years
Tuesdays, 4:00-5:00pm

Children will learn the fundamental skills of soccer, the importance of fair play, teamwork, and good sportsmanship.

5-6 year olds:
Wednesdays, 4:10-5:00pm
Saturdays, 10:00-10:50am

7-10 year olds:
Wednesdays, 5:10-6:00pm
Saturdays, 11:00-11:50am

Flag Football
Open to children of all ability levels.  We focus on individual techniques such as running with the ball, passing, receiving, creating space, accuracy and timing, running patterns and rules of the game.  There is limited physical contact with other children.
6-10 year olds
Mondays, 4:00-4:50pm

Kids Fit
This class uses physical activity and nutrition education programming and utilizes "CATCH" an award-winning program designed for children.  The nutrition education component of the program helps children make informed, healthful choices.  The physical activity session will give participants the opportunity to play a variety of fun games and activities that will get their hearts pumping!
Ages 5-10 years
Mondays, 5:00-5:45pm

Learn the basic skills.  Play interactive and engaging games that teach the fundamentals of scooping, cradling and catching.
Ages 5-10 years
Tuesdays, 5:10-6:00pm

Leaders Club

Ages 12-17
Leader's Club provides young people with opportunities for leadership training, personal growth, service to others, and social development.  Participants work closely with their peers and staff on skill and character building activities, as well as on planning and organizing club projects.  All programs provide a safe haven for young people to become confident and competent adults with a sense of belonging in their community, and promote and enhance the personal growth and social skills of young people in order to develop leaders who will be a positive force in their community.  Contact lsheafer@metroymcas.org for more information.
