Aquatic Program Supervisor

The East Orange YMCA is seeking an Aquatic Program Supervisor who will assist in supervising lifeguards to ensure adherence to the Aquatic Safety Policies. Under the general direction of the Sr. Aquatics Director, the position major responsibilities include, but are not limited to, on-deck Member Service, supervision Aquatic programs and activities, and supervision, training and scheduling of the Lifeguard staff. Additional key responsibility is to act as the leader/first responder in the event of an Emergency, either Accidental or Facility-related, in the Aquatics Department.

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
  2. Current Lifeguard, CPR, First Aid and AED Certifications.
  3. Minimum one year of experience in scheduling and supervising lifeguard staff.
  4. Minimum three years of lifeguard and swim instructor experience.
  5. Experience in conducting lifeguard orientations and trainings.
  6. Red Cross or YMCA Lifeguard Trainer or obtain within six months of hire.
  7. YMCA Swim Lesson (YSL) or Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Certification or obtain within one year upon hire.
  8. Excellent interpersonal skills.
  9. Flexible schedule.
  10. Ability to understand positive guidance and reinforcement techniques within the policies and guidelines of the YMCA.
  11. Ability to react to emergency situations within the policies and guidelines of the YMCA and in a calm and professional manner.
  12. Ability to work under minimal supervision and making sound decisions within the guidelines of the YMCA.
  13. Ability to communicate with a wide variety of members and guests in a professional manner, displaying tact and diplomacy when needed.
