VIRTUAL KINDERGARTEN READINESS PROGRAM

The YMCA’s Virtual Kindergarten Readiness program is designed to engage your child in developmentally appropriate activities to enhance and develop their social-emotional, cognitive, and language development in alignment with the NJ Preschool Standards and The Creative Curriculum Objectives for Development & Learning.

Each Virtual Kindergarten Readiness session will provide your child with opportunities to learn in a group setting via Zoom technology. Sessions are driven by monthly topics that will provide each child an opportunity for sharing, and a strong emphasis on content through review and applications of mathematics and literacy concepts that are fundamental for their age group. Sessions are being offered two days (Tuesday/Thursday) or three days (Monday/Wednesday/Friday) a week.

As a follow up to each session, your instructor will send you school-home connections that will allow your child to extend the skills they experienced in the session, at home.

Monthly Session Themes are set up to scaffold from one month to another so there is fluid learning within the program.

Reviews

"The Y Virtual Kindergarten Readiness program has been a wonderfully positive experience for our son and our family! We've been so impressed with the thought, time, and energy the Y has put into the activities, themes and live instruction. Ms. Jessica chooses developmentally-appropriate and engaging activities and notices when our son needs additional support or challenges. Her encouragement, patience, and care throughout the distance learning process has helped our son continue to learn and thrive while at home. We highly recommend this enriching program to all preschool families!"

"Dahlia is really enjoying the kindergarten readiness class. We were skeptical at first that she would not be able to focus for the whole time, but it is really holding her attention and we can tell that she enjoys it a lot. It’s been really important for her to have interaction with both teachers and her classmates. We tried videos without success because the interaction is what keeps her interested. The activities that Miss Laura has been doing have been great, especially songs and dances to get the sillies out. I'm also happy that there is an introduction to math concepts like addition. Dahlia is eager to learn new things and really took to this when we reviewed and practiced outside of class. We really like the optional activities to do outside of class time, and the “homework” has been fun and not overwhelming. The ability to get things done around the house while Dahlia is in class is invaluable."
