Break The Silence Virtual 5k

Brought to you by the Metro YMCA’s African American Resource Network Employee Resource Group

Let’s Get to Work:

The YMCA understands that systemic racism has been a pervasive problem throughout the U.S., and the Y is an important facilitator of the dialogue needed to enact change.

Through our Break the Silence 5K, the Y and members of our community are able to come together to raise awareness about racism and how we can work to undo it, at an individual, organizational, and societal level. This Virtual 5K enables members to engage the community  while also saying safe and practicing social distancing.

The Break the Silence 5K is brought to you by the Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges’ African-American Resource Network Employee Resource Group, which works to support the needs of African American employees within the Y movement, through career and professional development, training, and mentoring, so all voices can be represented in our organization.

Let’s work together to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion for all.

We have developed internal teams including a Diversity and Inclusion Committee to discuss ways in which we can be more welcoming to all who come through our doors. What is a virtual race?

A virtual race is a race that can be run (or walked) from any location you choose. You can run, jog, or walk on the road, on the trail, on the treadmill, at the gym, or on the track (or even at another race). You get to run your own race, at your own pace, and time it yourself.

How far is the Fun Run?

This is entirely up to you! The recommended distance for the fun run is 1 mile, but what is important is that you get out there and run/walk whatever distance you are trained for/comfortable doing.

Who can participate?

All are welcome to participate in the event! We encourage families to train together and encourage their friends and neighbors to also join in the fun. This event is open to YMCA members as well as the community!

Is it necessary to submit race results?

This will be a timed race, with times submitted using a mobile device app.

How do I submit my results?

Your registration confirmation email will include a link to submit race results. You may be asked to include a screenshot from a wearable device to verify your race finish time.
