We Believe

At the Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges, we believe our communities are stronger when everyone has the opportunity to reach their full potential. Our policies, practices and programs must advance our organizational commitment to diversity and inclusion. We must sustain our support for newcomers and immigrants, in partnership with our colleagues at Ys in 120 countries. We must ensure all people - across all dimensions of diversity - feel welcome and valued as part of the Y family.

Our Changing Communities

Communities across the U.S. are rapidly changing. As neighborhoods become more diverse, it is important that we, with great intentionality, understand who is in our communities and how best to serve their interests and needs.

Dimensions of Diversity

The Y is made up of people from all walks of life who are joined together by a shared commitment to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. Our Diversity Wheel is a key to understanding all the dimensions of diversity. To be truly inclusive and welcoming to all, it is critical to understand the many factors that make up and influence an individual and his or her personality. Our Y staff are trained with this very wheel, and our programs and services revolve around the understanding and respect of all dimensions of diversity.

Celebrating Our Diversity

The Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges welcomes people of all abilities, ages, backgrounds, ethnicities/races, faiths, gender identities, and sexual orientations. Join us as we recognize our incredible diversity each month!

Global Center of Excellence

In 2016, Y-USA developed the Global Centers of Excellence (GCE) network as a core strategy to respond to rapidly changing demographics and build local Y capacity to welcome, connect, advocate for, and serve diverse and underserved communities at home and abroad. In 2016, the network’s name was changed to more accurately reflect the full strategy of operationalizing diversity, inclusion and global (DIG) practices to advance social equity and inclusion, and foster community cohesion. The new name is the Diversity, Inclusion and Global Innovation Network or, the DIG Innovation Network. The DIG Innovation Network is leading the Movement’s efforts in outreach to diverse and underserved communities, community bridge-building, and driving program innovation so that everyone, regardless of who they are or where they come from, has an opportunity to reach their full potential.
