Prevention Measures Summary

  • Acrylic barriers remain at Welcome Centers and check-ins.
  • Online membership transactions only.
  • Hand sanitizer placed throughout the building.
  • Members and staff should wash their hands frequently.
  • Facility and equipment thoroughly cleaned and disinfected with hospital grade disinfectant cleaner (before opening and throughout the day).
  • Members will be asked to clean equipment before and after each use.
  • Spacing markers on floors to enable social distancing.
  • Signage installed to remind members of healthy cleaning practices.
  • Staff and members will be strongly encouraged to wear face masks assuming community restrictions are relaxed.
  • To obtain facility access, employees and members will be screened through a questionnaire and temperature check. After satisfactory completion, member self-scans their Y key tag to obtain Y entry (staff will not handle cards, phone, or other personal belongings).
  • Any individual who displays symptoms of illness during the screening process, or has been in close contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19, may not enter the building.


  • Entire facility will be cleaned and disinfected prior to opening and after closing each day.
  • All equipment will be cleaned with hospital-grade disinfectant throughout the day (minimum of every two hours) and after closing.
  • Members will be asked to use provided cleaning supplies to clean equipment before and after each use.
  • Public entry doors and counters, elevator buttons, mobility assist handrails and stair rails will be cleaned frequently throughout the day with hospital grade disinfectant.
  • Adventure Centers/Specialty Activity areas will be reopened for family time with restricted capacity.
  • No parents allowed in childcare areas.
  • Group Exercise will operate on a space-available basis through on-line reservation system.
  • Group Exercise classes remain available with appropriate social distancing. All rooms cleaned before and after every class.
  • Expanded class offering implemented.
  • Gym open for group activities if we can meet current social distancing requirements allowed by CDC/Health Department.

Areas Open With Restrictions

  • Cardio and strength areas open with significant capacity restrictions.
  • Gymnasium open for group exercise classes or YMCA designated activities with capacity limits.
  • Individual workouts permitted in gymnasium, when not in use, with capacity restrictions and strict social distancing.
  • Indoor pool operating based on CDC guidelines.
  • Locker rooms open with strict social distancing and cleaning policies in place.
  • All non-bottle water filling drinking fountains will be out of use.
  • Seating areas significantly reduced to prevent gathering.
  • Non-contact Personal Training will observe social distancing protocols. If closer proximity (less than six feet) is required, member-client must wear face mask.

Closed Areas

  • Steam rooms, hot tubs, and saunas

People & Activities

  • Ramped up staffing to allow for additional programming.
  • All staff thoroughly trained on COVID-19 transmission prevention and new cleaning protocols prior to working.
  • Guests not allowed to use facilities.
  • Staff and members are encouraged to self-screen for potential exposure to COVID-19 and for symptoms of the virus prior to traveling to the Y. If exposure and/or symptoms are present, do not come to the Y.
  • Members limited to using the facility for a total of 60 min.
  • All members and staff asked to wash their hands with soap and water and/or sanitize hands upon entry and exit.
  • Members required to scan out of the facility.
  • New normal group and Active Older Adult programming resume.
  • Pick up basketball, indoor pickleball, and racquetball/squash only open if we can meet current social distancing requirements allowed by CDC/Health Department.
  • Programs, including youth sports and outreach programs, resume provided they are allowed by the CDC/Health Department.
  • Before and after-school childcare will open in all designated schools provided they are allowed by the state/local health department/CDC.
  • Child watch rooms will open.
  • Anyone unwilling to comply with the Y’s COVID-19 transmission prevention measures or follow our new community-conscious code will be asked to leave the facility immediately.
