Virtual Academic Support Programs

As an organization committed to youth development, the YMCA is dedicated to helping children succeed across all of our communities, no matter the manner in which they are attending school. To support families in this new era of learning, we currently offer three virtual programs in which our experienced staff provide safe, interactive academic assistance to students: Virtual Distance Learning, Virtual Kindergarten Readiness, and Virtual Tutoring.

In our Distance Learning program, Y instructors help children complete homework or e-learning assignments online through one-hour live virtual sessions. Our Virtual Tutoring is similar but provides more intensive support in a specific subject area.

The Kindergarten Readiness Program engages children ages 4-6 in a group setting, with monthly topics focused on math and literacy. The program aligns with the NJ Preschool Standards and The Creative Curriculum Objectives for Development & Learning.

Reviews:

“The Y Virtual Kindergarten Readiness program has been a wonderfully positive experience for our son and our family! We've been so impressed with the thought, time, and energy the Y has put into the activities, themes and live instruction. Ms. Jessica chooses developmentally-appropriate and engaging activities and notices when our son needs additional support or challenges. Her encouragement, patience, and care throughout the distance learning process has helped our son continue to learn and thrive while at home. We highly recommend this enriching program to all preschool families!”

“Dahlia is really enjoying the kindergarten readiness class. We were skeptical at first that she would not be able to focus for the whole time, but it is really holding her attention and we can tell that she enjoys it a lot. It’s been really important for her to have interaction with both teachers and her classmates. We tried videos without success because the interaction is what keeps her interested. The activities that Miss Laura has been doing have been great, especially songs and dances to get the sillies out. I'm also happy that there is an introduction to math concepts like addition. Dahlia is eager to learn new things and really took to this when we reviewed and practiced outside of class. We really like the optional activities to do outside of class time, and the “homework” has been fun and not overwhelming. The ability to get things done around the house while Dahlia is in class is invaluable.”

“We're loving the [Distance Learning] program and very happy we signed up for it! It's a great way to add some structure and connection during this time. Thank you!”

“Thank you so much for this service. While there are a ton of places offering distance learning support at a range of prices, there is just something extra special about her getting to do this with the people she knows and trusts at the Y.”
