South Mountain YMCA

Duck Race

On behalf of all of us at the South Mountain YMCA, and those in the community that will benefit from your generous support, THANK YOU! Watching the community come together for an event such as the Duck Race is proof that when we work together, we can do so much more.

From the Duck Race fans that bought tickets and ‘Quack Packs’, to the many local businesses that donated prizes and gift certificates, to your
vital sponsorship, the 20th Annual Duck Race was a resounding success raising $23,000.

Because of you, over 200 children and families will have access to Y camps and programs and make it possible for children in neighboring YCS group homes to enjoy fun trips throughout the year! YCS provides services to thousands of New Jersey families who have children of all ages with special needs.

This year, proceeds from the Duck Race will also support the local charity, the AV Hero Fund charitable organization that provides assistance to community members and local organizations.

Angelo Vayas was an active and philanthropic member of our community whose legacy is one of compassion by helping those in need. The AV Hero Funds provides the means and resources to help with emergency needs that allows individuals to have a life experience that has been denied due to extenuating circumstances.

We are appreciative of local vendors and sponsors who have contributed to this event and continue to make a difference in our community.  Sponsors include Maplewood Rotary Club, The Local Yarn Store, Roman Gourmet, SOMA Book Festival, Village Barber, Suzy Q’s, Eventage, BCB Community Bank, Mona Lisa Framing, CrossFit, Pollock Properties Group, Bagel Chateau, Tile Design Inpirations, St James Gate, Village Trattoria, Pet Wants and many more.

Thank you Duck Race Sponsors!

In 1998, Ellie Gianni brought this tradition to life and was known  as the original “duck lady”.  She sat outside the Maplewood Stationers every year selling tickets for ducks. Ellie passed away in 2013. In past years,  the South Mountain YMCA  partnered with Kiwanis and is now thrilled to be host of this beloved tradition.
