Our Youth Sports Programs cultivate values, skills and relationships that lead to positive behaviors, better health and educational achievement. Youth sports help children to grow personally, appreciate diversity, develop leadership skills and have fun. We incorporate our core values: Respect, Honest, Responsibility and Caring into all our classes.

PARENTS NOTE: Children attending our ECLC and School Age Child Care Program at the Program Center will be picked up and returned to class by Y staff.

FIELD GAMES! (4 - 5 1/2 yrs) Class #100249
Field Games gives children an opportunity to get out in the spring sunshine and learn sports and games that take place on field surfaces. This includes traditional sports such as soccer, but also field games like capture the flag, gaga, and more! Please observe age restrictions

The flag football skills clinic is designed to teach students fundamental skills of flag football (catching, throwing, defense, flag pulling) as well as offensive and defensive strategy. Students will learn skills through fun games and activities and will be prepared to participate in full flag football games by the end of the session! No class on 5/4.

FLOOR HOCKEY (4 -5 1/2 yrs) Class #100146
Put on your sneakers and get your hockey stick ready! Learn the fundamentals while having fun. We will end each class with a game.  The Y provides all hockey equipment including a helmet with face mask (or bring your own).

This fun, energetic game is a kinder, gentler dodge ball.  Build agility, cardio endurance, quickness and hand eye coordination.  Class is rescheduled on rainy days.

G.A.T.O.R.S. (3 – 5 1/2 yrs) Class #100118
G.A.T.O.R.S. Stands for Games, Activities, Tag, Obstacles, Relays, and Sports! This exciting class will enable children to continue their physical development in a fun and safe environment where they will learn basic athletic skills including change of direction, stopping and starting, fleeing, and hand-eye coordination!

GIRLS SPORTS CLUB (Grades 1-4) Class #100206
New to the South Mountain Y- Girls Sports Club is an opportunity for girls in grades 1-4 to explore and learn the skills needed for sports like basketball, volleyball, and more! G.S.C. is a great opportunity for girls to come out and play sports in a fun and positive environment!

INTRO TO SPORTS: FIELD GAMES! (3 - 5 1/2 yrs) Class #100127
This class will help young students develop coordination skills through the introduction of sports that utilize the hands and feet to manipulate objects. Students will learn sports such as soccer, t-ball, and football through fun games and drills designed to introduce and develop sport specific skills, all while playing games and having fun!

KARATE FOR THE FAMILY (4yrs – 5th Grade)
Children and adults learn basic philosophy and movements of this martial art. Develop physical fitness, body control, self-esteem. Safety awareness and self-defense are also discussed. Sensei Carmen Puglio, with over 40 years of experience, leads this class. Uniforms, belts, and martial arts equipment are not required but available for purchase. Advancement belts are optional and must be purchased if they are earned. Parents must register individually if also taking the class.

Learn to play with junior sized tennis racquets, oversized balls and super fun instruction! Racquets are supplied or bring your own. We build confidence, develop physical coordination and practice good sportsmanship. No class on Monday, 5/27.

We are very excited to announce our new partnership with Shred.Co to offer skateboard clinics! Programs will be tailored to the importance of expressing creativity with physical activity, building confidence to face your fears, persistence to not give up when working on a new skill, respect and encouragement for the class and fellow skaters. Learn the FUN-damentals to skateboarding with skill building exercises, skateboard oriented games, professional demonstration, photo and video documentation and more! Learn firsthand how to comfortably ride, balance, turn and even land some basic tricks!

SPACE WARS ACADEMY (4 – 5 1/2 yrs) Class #100204
Bravery, loyalty, focus, physical you have what it takes to win an epic battle between good and evil?  Based on 3 of the classic series of movies, Space Wars Academy will teach team work, strategy and sportsmanship skills to help your young warrior to gain strength, agility and stamina.  You certainly don't want to miss this class as we re-create heroic galaxy scenes, design personalized equipment and save the universe.  Whether you are a Novice, Knight or Master, Master Shaun needs your inner focus to combat the evil empire.

Explore mobility on two wheels, improve motor skills development, increase balance, strength and build confidence and coordination. Children focus solely on learning balance first. Research shows that learning balance and coordination with exercise jump-starts a child’s growth and development. Helmet use required. Bring your own or use the Y’s helmets.

We partner with TGA Premier Junior Golf and introduce new players to this great game. Players progress through TGA's five level program including putting, swing fundamentals, rules and etiquette.  Rainy days are made up at the end of the session.
