The Benefits of a Traditional Summer Camp Experience

Sending your child to a traditional summer camp is an excellent choice for many reasons. First and foremost, it's a safe and nurturing place for your child to build character and make friends. Participants can try new activities that may not be available at home or during the school year. Each camp activity presents a new and exciting challenge, and campers build confidence, self-reliance, problem-solving skills, and social skills as they persevere through difficulty. When you send your child to summer camp, you'll have peace of mind knowing he or she is in a safe environment and learning something new.

Learn More About Our Friendly Staff

Metro YMCA takes special care when selecting staff members for the summer. We carefully screen applicants and choose the best individuals based on their love and enthusiasm for children and their community. Every employee is subject to an extensive background check, interview, and 30 hours of pre-camp training. During these training sessions, we emphasize safety, counseling, conflict resolution, and upholding camp policies and procedures. Our staff members are tasked with upholding standards outlined by the American Camp Association (ACA), such as creating a safe camp environment, focusing on self-improvement, and service to the community, among many others.

Specialty Activities include Archery, Arts and Crafts, CATCH, indoor and outdoor sports, cooking, dance fitness, performing arts STEAM and more.

Club Time
After lunch, campers will be able to participate in club time. Clubs are groups where kids can explore their interests with their friends guided by a caring camp counselor. Campers will engage across age groups and share their passion and excitement through club topics like: dance, environment, journalism, performing arts, science, sports, and more.

Themed Weeks
Campers will participate in weekly themed activities including: Color War, Talent Show, Camp Carnival, and more.

Water Safety and Swimming
Learning to swim means much more than learning strokes; it is learning water survival skills, water safety, and developing comfort in the water. Water safety is about having an educated respect for the water, including an understanding of the layers of protection needed to keep ourselves and our loved ones safer when in, on, and around water.
