Youth Sports & Recreation Program

Preschool Sports Classes

Sports Galore
Introduction to a variety of sports through skill building and functional movement games.

Youth and Teen Sports & Fitness Classes

 

Learn to Ski
The Wayne YMCA and the National Winter Activity Center, located in Vernon, NJ, are partnering to provide beginner ski lessons.  Lessons include 6 on-snow sessions with professional ski instructors, all rental equipment, a healthy meal, bussing from the Wayne YMCA to and from the NWAC, mentoring and coaching.

Basketball
Learn the fundamentals of basketball (dribbling, passing, shooting and defense) along with the team concepts of offensive play and zone defense - all done in a fun, values-oriented environment.

Beginner Cheerleading
Learn the basic cheer motions, jumps, and stunts! At the end of this 8-week session, students will perform a mini routine.

Soccer
Children will learn the fundamental skills of soccer, the importance of fair play, teamwork, and good sportsmanship.

Flag Football
Open to children of all ability levels.  We focus on individual techniques such as running with the ball, passing, receiving, creating space, accuracy and timing, running patterns and rules of the game.  There is limited physical contact with other children.

6-10 year olds

Weight Training 101
Twice/week for 8 weeks.  Teens will be taught the correct lifting techniques and how to safely develop power using weights.  Minimum of 3 participants.

Kids Fit
This class uses physical activity and nutrition education programming and utilizes "CATCH" an award-winning program designed for children.  The nutrition education component of the program helps children make informed, healthful choices.  The physical activity session will give participants the opportunity to play a variety of fun games and activities that will get their heats pumping!

Leaders Club


Ages 12-17
Leader's Club provides young people with opportunities for leadership training, personal growth, service to others, and social development.  Participants work closely with their peers and staff on skill and character building activities, as well as on planning and organizing club projects.  All programs provide a safe haven for young people to become confident and competent adults with a sense of belonging in their community, and promote and enhance the personal growth and social skills of young people in order to develop leaders who will be a positive force in their community.  Contact lsheafer@metroymcas.org for more information. 

Teen Nights

Join us for basketball, dodgeball, laser tag, special events, teen open swim, dance parties, and more!  Pizza dinner and a drink are included in the fee.
